Rockin’ 80th Birthday, Austin, TX 04/17/2010
The Hyatt Regency in downtown Austin was rockin’ on April 17, 2010. If I had known 80 could be so much fun, I would have done it sooner!

Patrick is the oldest and resides in Austin, so he became the “Planner-in-Chief,” with plenty of help from his daughter, Michelle. We also celebrated Bill’s 50th birthday as well as Kevin’s wife, Lindsey’s, 50th. What an amazing family affair this became!

Many thanks to all who attended, especially those who traveled to Austin from: California, Pennsylvania, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico; also, from Texas cities of Houston, Conroe, San Antonio, and Kingwood.

NOTE: Special thanks go to the two “family” members who are responsible for these fantastic photographs: Heather Anthony Turner and Gerren Lamson.

Book Reading in Shrevport, LA 03/20/2010
On March 20, 2010, I had a Book Reading and Signing of Women and Pedagogy in Shreveport, Louisiana, where I was born. This was my first trip to Shreveport since our 50-year high school reunion in 1997. View the Event Flyer

In spite of the rain and sudden drop in temperature, some brave souls unpacked their winter coats and made the drive to the Holiday Inn Financial Plaza for the evening reading. During the evening, light snow began to fall.

By the next morning the blowing snow was so severe that Delta cancelled all their flights. Late March snowstorm in the deep south—what an aberration!

Patrick and his daughters, Michelle and Katie, along with Charles Page managed everything for me that night. Even great-grandchildren, Kaiser and Genevieve, helped by handing everyone my business card—whether they wanted it or not!

St. Vincent’s High School Reunion, June 26, 2010

Three months after the book reading, thanks to my generous granddaughter driver, Michelle, I was able to return to Shreveport for the annual St. Vincent’s High School reunion, where I enjoyed being with many other alumnae, some of whom I had not seen since the 1940s. This time it didn’t snow!

We were all so excited about seeing each other and sharing stories that most people had left before we thought about taking pictures. At least we have these two.

After the luncheon, it was difficult to say goodbye to so many friends from those high school days. The school has been closed for years, but on that Saturday in June, we felt it was “Forever and ever…”

Story Circle Network 2010 Conference, Austin, TX 02/05 - 02/07/2010
This year’s conference was held February 5-7 at the Wyndham Hotel in Austin, Texas.

We were treated to many outstanding speakers and workshops, among them our keynote speaker on Friday evening, acclaimed author Heather Summerhayes Cariou, who discussed the process of completing her award-winning memoir, Sixtyfive Roses: A Sister’s Memoir.

The Saturday night Open Mic session became the most empowering event of the conference.

The session was especially intense for five of us who remained in the room at least two hours after the others had left, discussing the intimacy and power of the Open Mic readings. We had never met before this conference; our ages were representative of five decades; we had nothing in common, yet we had everything in common!

What a great way to close this memorable conference!

NOTE: Many thanks to Jane Steig Parsons, the official photographer for SCN.

On November 4, 2009, I was among the vendors in a festive holiday market held at The Conservatory at Wells Branch in Austin, Texas.  During the all day market, visitors purchased Women and Pedagogy books as well as note cards with reproductions of my original pencil sketches. View the Event Flyer
